New halogen downlighter installation - light is very dim....

I bought a good quality GU10 Osram 50W bulb and it made a noticable difference. I think I've just been supplied with cheap bulbs. The Osrams are brighter and the light is much more white.

Does that make sense?

i find gu10 give off horrible light anyway. if using dowl lighters i much prefer ELV such a crisper light output.
