Not sure if this is the correct terminology, but around the top and sides of all the walls appears to be some tape 1" wide that is coming off in small areas. What is this? and can i take them off or simply stick them back down?

Many thanks

do you mean the house is new as in new build? Sounds much like taped boards. Might be best to put this in plastering section where ruf caster etall will know all about it

It sounds like you are refering to where the wall meets the celing, and by sides I assume you mean corners. The 1 inch tape is probably half of a width of 2 inch jointing tape, which plasterers use to stick over joints where sheets of plasterboard meet, whether it be ceilings or wall, before they skim the surfaces. This prevents joints from cracking. If it's coming away, it's probably been there for quite a while and will be hard to hide. If you pull it away, you'll just peel the paint work off with it and make a lot of work to repair. If it's small areas like you say, I can only suggest you carefully cut it away with a sharp knife, then fill the void area it leaves, rub that down, then repaint it. It won't last forever, but the other alternative is to have it redone properly, but then it's an expensive job.

Thanks for the help, yes new build 2 years old. the tape is coming away in the bathroom and another toilet room - moisture no doubt? It's not much, say a 3-4" length here and there and it's only showing the gap on one edge. Would any glue do, i have some wall paper paster left in the garde, would this be ok, if inject it in maybe?

I read it wrong.. thought all walls had blown  Thats why I wondered new build.
I would go along with grifters remedy. Trying to stick back might cause more probs as the tape needs to be damp and may loosen the next section and could end up doing whole room..

Good luck.
