Hi

I have a Crabtree Starbreaker and bought an mcb to fit in a shower.

What I expected was.... a bar to clip to and the live wire feed in and out of the mcb....

What is in the consumer unit are mcbs with live wire out at top and metal clip onto the fixing bar.

Can I make the new mcb work in the consumer unit?

or just buy the original type?

Is the current CU a Crabtree Starbreaker?

You need a crabtree breaker to fit a crabtree board.
Mainly because they have a slot and 'plug in'.
Secondly cos your not supposed to mix makes.

BUT...there are several different types of crabtree breaker depending on the situation.

(Hang on, that sounds like Nick Straker....)

Sorry securespark I was only aware of the one.
He's saying its a shower, so really it should be a modern starbreaker with RCD!

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

How did you design the circuit and choose the MCB?

Are you aware of all the rules regarding cable installation?

Will the circuit be RCD protected?

What testing will you do before energising it to prove that it's safe?

It's a bit worrying that you weren't expecting the MCB to be fed by a bus-bar - makes me wonder if you really know what you're doing...

If you haven't bought the right type it might be dangerous - if it's designed for a different bus-bar shape, or position, it might not make a good contact. If you could have bought the original type why didn't you?

All done

Thanks

just needed an actual Starbreaker MCB, with Circuit contact built in for bus bar and live contact at top.

Thanks for all of the concerns

So you originally bought some random make, not the same as the make of your CU?

The circuit was already in

A shower has been added, even put dual pole pull switch in bathroom!

Yes it has RCD protection

Yes cable regulations followed

The circuit was already in
Who installed it?

Why did they not finish the job?

Do you have anything to show that it was tested?

What size is the cable, and what is it's adjusted current carrying capacity?

What rating is the MCB?

Which part of the UK are you in?

If you say so.

Oh dear,

Some people!,
Thought a simple question would get a simple answer, not the SS!

yes electrical work is easy, and over charged, obviously a mistake to seek assistance here.

Thanks another one on my list of bad things in this country

Not a thing to say to win friends on this forum. Im not a spark, and neither, AFAICT, is ban all sheds, but we give advice based on knowledge. Some people, however dont help themselves, with unclear descriptions.
