Don't know about anyone else, but if the wall is to be tiled afterwards, I would think about cutting out a piece of plasterboard between two studs large enough to get at everything you need to.
Fit pieces of 12 or 18mm plywood between the studs to fix everything to.
Fit noggins around the edge of your hole in the wall.
When everything is tested replace the plasterboard, make good around it and prepare it for tiling.

Think about future access if anything goes wrong. For example could you create a 'trap door' in the other side of the wall if it backs onto , say, an airing cupboard?
Or keep back enough matching tiles to reinstate it later if need be.
