Hi Guys,

After a bit of advice please?

I need to lay a new screed about 40mm in depth to raise the current floor level in our porch way (we have moved the front door forward so effectively the outside porch is now our hallway floor!)

Its only about 2m square in area, but the problem is its our only entrance to the house, so cant avoid passing over it to get in and out

Can someone advise if my plan will be ok? Which is to do the floor and cut a sheet of 9mm ply to the rough size of the laid floor and walk over this, with the hope that it will spread the load!

Any thoughts appreciated.

Many thanks

Temporarily fix a batten to each wall on either side of your "hallway". Fix them about 3 to 4 inches up from where the finished floor level will be,, then lay 2 or 3 battens across the way to act as supports, then lay your piece of ply across them.
If you screed a floor and lay plywood straight onto the "wet screed", it'll damage the screed..

Why not cut a couple of bit of ply to raise it up and make this the floor? A 25 and a 15 or an 18 and a 22mm.
