We have just fitted 2 new cheap taps, 1 upstairs and the other downstairs.

When we turn them on there is a loud gushing noise, to me it's like the sound of the water rushing through the pipes and then the tap. I can hear it in the floor

These were cheap taps, could this be the reason ? Or does anyone have any other ideas ?

Many thanks

The Chinese like the sound of " laughing water " in their temple gardens . You got a cheapo Chinese tap and they`re  @ you . OR you might have set the stopcock to a different position after you shut off and turned on again

I bet you have mains cold water and tank fed hot water from a cylinder.

Do you get the rushing noise when you have the tap at neither fully hot or fully cold, only when blending hot and cold?

You probably need to fit a check valve on the hot supply because the cold water is pushing its way into the hot water pipework.
