Hello all.

I have an old ADT system installed called Galaxy 8 with 3 PIR and door sensor and two external sirens. The system needs an upgrade to get notifications on a mobile plus ideally need a wireless add on to install a door sensor or PIR in the garden office.

I have been getting some quotes from different installers. Most trying to offer wireless systems but I want hard wired as most systems can be jammed, even the Ajax system. One installer offered a Texecom elite 24 with smartcom. The system apparently can reuse the old PIR and door sensor installed plus the app cost £45 a year.

The issue I have is that the current keypad is right next to the door frame and I don’t think the larger keypad would fit there.

I would love to be able connector the System to Home Assistant to trigger actions based on the sensors. Not sure if the system is capable out of the box plus the key pad looks really old fashioned. I have seen a touch keypad plus keyfob setup somewhere which looked very modern but cannot figure out the make of the system.

My question would be if ot is true that the old PUR sensors fit with the new system?

I need to move on this soon as we had 3 breaking in the neighbourhood and even next door.

What shall I do or install. Any advise on the best system?

Thanks!

Speak to galaxy guy if your happy with the galaxy …you could upgrade to a newer panel and use self mon

I upgraded my old but reliable Gardiner alarm by using an Esp32 module and a Wi-Fi key switch. No maintenance costs and I get email notifications and access to my system via webpage.

You can update by swapping the control panel with a Galaxy Flex or Dimension version. Both these panels will be compatible with your existing keypads, sounders and sensors and will give detailed event notifications in the event the system gives any sort of alert. You can add the SelfMon VMOD (LCE-K3) module to connect to Home Assistant via MQTT. The SelfMon FB forum has over 500 members who have installed their own Galaxy and use various Home Assistant setups to integrate their security system.

With the Galaxy, there are options for apps and low cost (£1 a month no contract) self-monitoring via SelfMon. If you use Home Assistant, you can remote control and receive notifications via Home Assistant without having to pay for any third party service. The benefits of the SelfMon platform are that it also provides things like line path checking, DDNS and multiple message queue options.

Disclosure: I run SelfMon Ltd. www.selfmon.uk

An example of a home assistant card with keypad and zone status on a Honeywell Galaxy with VMOD fitted. Home Assistant interacts with the VMOD via MQTT giving full keypad control, zone and system status.
