Hi,

Changing my front external door to a wooden one from a tired old UPVC.
Present doors are double french door with toplite. Just need some pointers like types of locks, frame (hardwood or could i use the current upvc one) etc.Security is most important here with heat retention and the doors I have found from Wickes have a U Value of 1.9W.

All advice appreciated.

I wouldn't use the existing uPVC frame.

I think what you are doing is an excellent idea - uPVC doors are rubbish.

Cheers

Always use a hardwood frame, you needs 5 lever Yale in the opening door and either 2 shoot bolts in the mosty closed door or 2 Chubb bolts operated with a star key. Avoid loose pin hinges, you can actually buy high security hinges which lock into the frame.
