Nicotine stains.

Hi all, have a badly stained ceiling with nicotine, what is the best way to prep it and block the stain, thanks for your time!!

iirc wipe it down with sugar soap or the likes to remove the gunge.

As above but then give it a coat of a thinned oil based undercoat before putting finishing coats of emulsion on.

The quickest way is to put a dollup of PVA in the first coat.

Sorry if reply is a bit late but I had similar a few years ago and washed with sugar soap. Was told to use Zinsser B.I.N. I did so and have had no bleed through. Bit pricey but did the job fine. Had already bought some to prime a previously varnished cladded ceiling in porch prior to painting white. Goes off quick and found easier to chuck the roller away than attempt to clean up.
