Nigel Farage and Makerfield

The Faragists whistle bravely in an attempt to keep their spirits up.

They convince nobody.

Andy Burnham’s seismic victory in the Makerfield by-election is a bitter pill for Reform UK, highlighting once more Nigel Farage’s struggle to counter tactical voting and poor candidate selection.

The defeat marks the third straight by-election loss for Farage’s anti-immigration party, after Caerphilly in Wales and Gorton and Denton in Greater Manchester, despite leading national opinion polls. Makerfield was a significant test: it ranks 29th on Reform target seats, based on the swing needed from their election result in 2024. Polling expert Steve Akehurst described the result as an “abysmal performance by Reform”.

Poor windy reacts badly to anything that does not reinforce his warped view of the world.

He wants to believe that Deform's defeat was a victory.

Keep whistling.

Does anyone actually think this is the beginning of a resurgence for Labour?

I'm interested, tell us if you think this is the dawn of an exciting new era for us all.

It looks to me like when Homer Simpson bounced off a rock halfway down while falling off the cliff.

Does anyone except Ivor actually think this is the beginning of a resurgence for Deform? Failing at one election after another?

Problem being, these labour supporters are just clinging onto anything to keep their hopes alive that Labour are a winning team. They just cannot accept that they have no chance of winning the next GE where they will become just another green or Lib dem paty that will never become anything. It's a shame but that is politics for you.

I don't know if anyone has told you boyo, but Labour are the party in power. No problem.

Suck it up.

The list of her headlines is like a lefty propaganda leaflet...

She must be lining herself up for a job at the Guardian, although the FT where she already writes seems to have sadly headed down the same plughole in recent years.

You could extol the virtues and specific benefits of Deform, rather than just try to make them look better through denigrating the opposition.

But "could" would have to do some very heavy lifting for that to be possible, let alone happen.
