I've just bought an old 1930s house. Which has a combi setup.

I've checked all the rads for a drain valve, but can't find one. There also doesn't seem to be an interior stop cock if that's relevant at all.

I need to remove 1 rad for a bathroom refit. So need to drain the system line. How is this done without a valve?
I'm assuming if I cut the pipe to try and fit end caps, the whole system will try to drain whilst I'm doing it?

It's a 3 bed with 5 rads, all singles. What's a rough idea of system capacity ?

Cheers

Just close the valves for the rad your'e removing, open the bleed nipple to relieve the pressure, close the bleed nipple and crack the nuts and remove the rad. Dish and towel underneath should be ok.

As per Gigz. If you want to drain the system, to reposition rads, then drain through the rad valves, having removed the rad. If 15mm tails, create an assembly using nut, olive, short bit of tube, jubilee clip and hose, to facilitate easy draining.

Thanks for the help guys. Glad I didn't cut and cap now. Knew it would be messy, so wanted to wait to find out.

Are you sure that your rad valves don't have an integrated drain cock? Some do and it's not always obvious.

I'll post a picture of them. It's all pretty old stuff, so I'd be surprised. But I'll check and post back
