I have a couple of Muscatel vines, about 10 years old. Last year they fruited generously, but it has just struck me that this year, I can see only a couple of grapes, low down, and there seem to be a few small flowers on the tips of some of the shoots.

Foliage looks healthy and they each have a spread of about 10' high and 10' wide.

I don't keep a gardening diary but it seems very late in the year not to be able to see bunches of grapelets forming.

It might be relevant that because I was away a lot last year I did not prune them until this spring, when the buds were starting to break.

I don't remember then having a rest year after a good year in the past.

Any ideas?

My grapevine has been known to take a rest for no obvious reason so I wouldn't panic.
