Hi

We’ve had this monster bush for 25 years. I missed the boat (again) in not cutting back in the spring, so wondered if I just leave it until next year to do this. Also seems to have a few nice flowers but more deadheads. Am I right in thinking I don’t need to separately deal with these?

So plan is to cut back branches to about 4” (above healthy bud)

Thanks

There’s more than a few nice flowers there, I would wait till next spring
and cut back hard after the last frost. That said they would recover IMO if cut back now

Thanks. It could do with a good prune as v big, blocking light to lounge etc.

Cut it back ….they are as tough as old boots …I’ve got one near my back door it gets hammered every year and it just grows back , you will probably find if you cut it back now it will probably start growing back with more flowers

Thanks. The only info I could find on cutting back was if you do it in the spring, cut back to 10cm above ground etc. You’re not advocating I do that now, are you?

No trim it back now like you would with an overgrown privet hedge , then later on October give it a good cut back ….
