Hi

Could one of you guy's please explain the the plumbing illiterate amongst us how you would rectify the following problem if it is possible at all.
A friend of mine had been living in a one bed apartment for a bout a year now, its 30 years old and she told me the other day she has to kneel in the bath to shower....
I personally prefer a power shower :)
The problem she has is the hot water tank which must only be about 100ltrs is only three foot above the floor then there is a small cold header tank on top of this, so if the shower head is held up the water stops, quite logical i would say, so how could this have been like it for all that time?
More important is how can she rectify the problem, she has a small loft space but i don't think its high enough to put a tank up there.
Any ideas please and will it cost her a lot to put it right?

Thanks

is it one of thee combination cylinders ?

Hey jordan, she lives in an apartment so no downstairs.... an electric shower dont you still need water pressure? or do you mean take a mains pressure feed for it....
As for shower pump, again i guess you need mains pressure from the cold and im not sure the hot water tank is big enough, is there a minimum you need when installing a shower pump?
Sorry for the questions but would like to give her the best answer so she can get it sorted....

yes.

not much you can do really unless
you change the cylinder and fit a plastic tank in loft - not cheap option.
fit an electric shower fed from the mains water.

combination cylinders are not really practicle to fit a pump to so you can have a mixer shower.
because they don't store enough cold water so pumping the hot and cold would run it dry.

the simpelest thing to do is fit an electric shower, thats fed from mains, it wont blast u away but its more than adequate for a good shower

Good advice jordan1,

I am sure she will be happy with that, I personally don't like them as they are not powerful enough, but think anything is better than kneeling in the bath whilst having a shower....
