Sorry if this doesn't make sense - most of this is what my husband has tried to explain to me! We have a Baxi Condensing Gas Boiler that 13 radiators runs off. It was installed as a complete new system 3 years ago and since then we've replaced the pressure valve, ignition board and ... can't remember but there was something else.

This summer it was the pressure valve - the pressure kept dropping, engineer came out and replaced it. That was Sept, within a few weeks we noticed a leak, and now the system has packed up and won't ignite. Have called engineer who reckons we need to call Baxi out. He said he's booked up 'til end of month and then he might have to order parts ...

Right ... so range Baxi who can come out on Tuesday and for £200 or £300 depending on what's wrong they'll fix it. When I got home from work and my husband relayed all this info I was less than pleased. We've already paid £150 + out on this boiler and I'm wondering if it'll ever be right!

Husband has spent today bleeding the radiators, changing fuses and making phone calls. And we're still cold! Could some kind soul offer any suggestions or advice please?

Thanks!

you say it wont ignite, but what does it do,in other words does the fan run or the pump ,can you hear any ignition noise (sparking).can you give the model number not just baxi

Silly question But....is the boiler pressurised inbetween 1 & 2 bar on the guage and have you checked the 3 amp fuse in fused spur (box on wall near boiler).

COG - Thanks for your msg.
Yep, fan runs, pump is OK, could hear sparking but then it would shut down. It's a Baxi Barcelona Condensing.

Friday, it started up again so cancelled Baxi and booked plumber recommended by friend who will be here Saturday. Now, it's gone again What we have noticed is the plastic water reservoir is full.

Plumber Will - thanks for reply - yes have checked these things

If you have a spark then the only thing your missing is full ignition ,in other words non or not enough gas for ignition or too weak a spark. the next stage would be flame detection then full flame I would have your Eng check spark gaps and min gas pressure etc before looking for something complicated .the spark gaps and gas pressures checks are part of the service.Have you had it serviced ?.will check to see if there are any common ign faults with the BARCELONA

Thanks for your help COG - will mention all this on Saturday. It was serviced at beginning of this year - don't know if eng would have checked the spark gaps when he fitted new vacuum cylinder in Sept. S'pose not!

" the plastic water reservoir is full."
Condensate trap blocked?!!

Hi Chris R - I sense you are stating the obvious  - I confess to knowing nothing! Yes the trap did seem blocked - how much I've learned. Didn't know there was a trap this time yesterday. Have cleaned trap (not personally) and had been told this sorted it out - but couple of hours later there still seemed to be problems.

Just one point. Should the trap have been checked when it was serviced or is this something that we should be doing regularly?

Thank you everybody - I now feel hopeful that this could be sorted for the winter on Saturday!
