Hi,

After having some minor work we've had done, we suddenly don't have any hot water or hot water available for the radiators... I was hoping someone might be able to offer a few tips :D

So, basically, we had a radiator moved so the system was drained and the power to the boiler switched off.

When we fired things up, the boiler kicks in, the pilot light is on and it makes all the right noises but we don't get any hot water in the hot water cylinder (or at least from the taps or rads).

The pump (which is a new grundfos < 1 year old) is seperate from the boiler (glowworm economy - can't find a model number. Its around 5 years old but regularly serviced) and seems to be working - it makes a whiring sound. various pipes get hot around the boiler and the pump is full of hot water... most of the other pipes in the airing cupboard arn't hot.

From the pump, there is two what I assume are valves that control the flow of hot water from the pump. They're two metal Honeywell boxes with a switch on them with OPEN on one side and AUTO on the other. Both have always been set to AUTO (and still are).

It all has a honeywell timer/control gadget on the wall.

So, basically, after switching the power back on after the work and draining a little air from the rads, we switched the system on...

1. pilot light is on
2. power is available
3. boiler seems to kick in (when requested to do so by the timer/wall thing)
4. pump whirls / sounds normal and gets hot
5. boiler has two hot pipes from the top of it
6. no hot water in the cylinder or available to the rads

Any tips of what I can check next? I'm sure its something simple as it happened once before and the plumber working on things just fixed it when we mentioned it. Both occassions, they drained the system and switched the power off (don't think they did anything else but can't be sure).

Cheers
Barb

are the pipes hot on bothsides of the pump ?
are the pipes hot to the motorised valves ?
is their any thumb screw bleed valves on the highest point of the pipework new the cylinder ?

Could be:
airlock
valves not opening
bypass wide open

It could be something else, but that is a secret that only plumbers know, we don't tell it to others, so we can charge £899 for 2 minutes work.
