HELP!

The pilot light has gone out on my baxi 551 back boiler and it wont relight.
done everything the instructions say! even tried with a long match as i couldn't see a spark. Has anyone got any ideas as i don't want to call
someone out incase its me being blond.

Thanks

Better put a shilling in the meter?

The pilot 99.99% HAS to light if you hold the button in on the gas valve and get a flame to it, so try harder. I've sellotaped a match to a hacksaw blade in the past...!

If it lights but then goes out after you've held the button in hard for 30 seconds and released slowly, that's the standard thermocouple failure

I have tried it again and nothing! It definately wont light. Gas company hasn't cut me off as the fire works. Any more suggestions.

Please :)

Happydays,

Is it lighting and going out or not lighting at all? Have you tried as ChrisR suggests, with a match taped to something to enable you to reach (it doesn't have to be Chris' Hacksaw Blade  ) and then letting the button out VERY VERY slowly after at least 30 seconds?

A new Thermocouple, it'll set you back a small fortune..... about £5 :) plus labour of course. Could just be a blocked Pilot. Especially if it won't light. You'll need a Corgi to check which or both. He/she will also check the flue is pulling.

Thanks for the help guy's :D

Tried again last night with all sorts of thing taped together so i could reach, but nothing worked it just wont light :(
I have decided to call someone out, as i seem to fall into the 00.01% that can't light the boiler i'd probably fall in the % that blows themself up.

Watch this space and i'll let u know what was wrong :!: (and if i'm lucky i may get a bath before new year  )
