Moved into a new house with a conventional boiler; gravity fed system. We have an immersion heater which works, but when this is off we are not getting any hot water. The tank thermostat is on 70.

However the pipes are hot when the water is on, and the heating works fine so I assume this is not boiler related.

Any ideas? I can't get a plumber for 3 weeks around here.

Photo attached showing pipework, the red lines are the pipes that get hot.

Thanks!

A photo of the timer/programmer with the heating and hot water selected, just to see what type.

Do you have tools ?.

Could be a few reasons, although the wiring may need to be checked as there has been an alteration.

First make sure the 15mm lockshield gate valve on the cylinder return near the floor is fully open, temporarily remove one of the red handles above and use it to turn the square valve spindle anticlockwise till it stops it may already be fully open, thou. It may leak water aswell.

The 3 port valve may be seized on the hot water port, this is more involved to test.if you feel competent turn off the electric to heating system, remove the silver cover, remove the power head and gently turn the spindle with pliers, expect some spindle travel not a lot,DONT force it. vid on taking valve head apart

There could be a blockage in the cylinder coil, defect in cylinder stat, programmer mashed and many more possible faults but its a process of elimination
