No much do I open the bypass valve?

Drained the system today and closed this, it was neither fully opened or fully closed and now I don't know where to leave it.

If it makes a difference, the bypass is after the pump and before the 3 port valve. It then goes back to the boiler via the boiler return. I presume this is how they are all plumbed in anyway?!

There is no other radiator/ towel rail used as a bypass.

What other info do you need?

I suspect it was only slightly open but I'm now worried its too far open and the heat is going back to the boiler before round the pipes?

The heating engineer previously mentioned about it only being used for a short while after the heating turns off, would this be for pump overrun thing?

If so the set it to about 4m.

If its another type of valve then I would say get the proper kind!

No, it's just a small section of pipe with a valve/ tap on it. Although it hasnt actually got a tap on so a square ended socket is needed.

If some of your rads don't have TRV's, then a bypass may not be required at all, as one port is always open. I may have misunderstood your reference to bypass radiators, if so ignore above.

All rads have trvs but there isn't one on the towel rail. The towel rail is plumbed in however 'downstream' of the 3 port valve so its only on when the heating is on if that makes sense?

Make and model of boiler would be useful for the pros to advise whether it has one inbuilt and the one you adjusted was a historic one and no longer needed.

Thanks, its an ancient Trianco Redfyre Centraljet, probably be replaced in the next 12 months.

I would go with Tony if you can work out what the feck he is on about but 4M sounds good to me ???????
