a friend of mine has just brought his first house. he asked me to help him with a leaking pipe. Anyway after spending ages trying to find the stop cock it appears its been taken out and the only way to turn off the inocoming water supply is in the street!!!

anyway is this legal?

ps this won't be left like this its will have a new stop cock fitted

Legal is too strong a word.......some houses had a stop cock fitted on property but outside back door or on drive......just turn off in road and fit a new one.....

If the house is of Victorian/Edwardian build the stopcocks where very often put under the floor by the front door.

If its 'legal'. Its his house, his stopcock, his problem.
