Hi all.

OK - Fitted a new water softener for a friend on Saturday, at the outset we decided to replace the internal stopcock coming into the house as some time in the dim distant someone has mullered the square for the handle then molegrip'd it then drilled it (to pass a tommy bar through) and snapped the shaft completely off (found the old parts under the plinth), to get round this they then added a 15m gate valve straight after it and that is VERY tight, so we went outside to turn the mains off and low and behold BT have dug the path up to lay fibre cables and tarmac'd over the access (friends daughter is 100% sure where it 'Should' be as she remembers standing on it while waiting for friends and rocking on the cover as it was bent (now there is just tarmac in it's place) !

We counted all the access covers in the street and sure enough every house has one except theirs (we even turned the neighbours off just in case they were the on a shared one)

Who's responsible for finding/sorting it (digging it out and replacing the access cover) ? BT, Water Co, or householder ?

My friend is naturally VERY worried now about having a leak and being unable to turn the water off.

Phone your local water company. They will sort out the stopcock.....it may take a while.

You can also phone around and get a plumber who has a Freeze Machine and fit a new internal stopcock on the incoming mains.
