What was the rationale behind not having a TRV in the room with a thermostat, and how does that fit in with more novel approaches to heating ? i.e. weather comp, low temp heating, steady state heating, opentherm, multiple thermostats throughout out the house etc.
If you have a TRV in the room with a thermostat then the TRV may shut off the flow to the radiator before the wall thermostat switches off the boiler, the room thermostat then wouldn't get the chance to switch off the heating as the room would never get to the temperature set on the room thermostat.
With some of the more sophisticated heating controls it is possible (and sometimes even recommended) to combine TRVs and a room thermostat in the same area. One example of this is the Drayton Wiser system where they recommend also having a room thermostat in a room which has more than one radiator controlled by their TRVs. The system then groups the room thermostat and the multiple TRVs together to give control of the room.
