Hi - and sorry for the most basic of questions!!!!

Got myself a new office chair which squeaks, grunts and moans when I recline, etc. So I'm going to try lub'ing it up but wondered whether WD40 or 3-in-1 household oil would be the best bet? I have both....

Cheers

Max

WD40 for me - less mess and easier to clean off!
Sometimes a silicone spray is good if the squeak is from the plastic.

Thanks John.

Thinking about it, I do also have a Teflon based spray in the shed. Think I bought it years ago for lub'ing my bike.

Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Sure its worth a try - so long as it doesn't leave a visible white deposit it should be fine.

I've updated the OP and thread title because using the chair again today has made me realise that squeaks aren't so much the issue..... Rather, it is more clunks, grunts and clicks. I guess it is coming from where the metal is under strain and/or where metal is hitting against other bits of metal. Don't know if that makes sense. I'm gong to still give the lub'ing a go, but I'm starting to wonder whether it will remedy these sorts of issues or not....

For the record, the chair is a Knoll Life chair:
