When I flush the toilet, the water rises and then gradually goes down. There is then lots of gurgling down the pipes, and then water sometimes rises out of the bath plug. This is obviously pretty unpleasant and the bathroom is starting to smell. Any ideas?!

Thanks :)

Sounds very much like a blockage. You should check how your waste pipes have been plumbed in too. Not good practice to have wastes linked which appears to be the case.

Worth checking AAV function too if fitted.
