Help!

When our heating system kicks in am there are sounds like 'expansion' noises. But the clicking and tapping seems to be coming through the ceiling/floor and happens intermtantly throughout the day. The TRVs arrows are all pointing the correct way (dual flow) and the noise persists when all rads off (only one with no TRV is on). The system is 15mos old and this has only developed in last month or so. I've noticed that one radiator need 2 b bled (cold top) - could this have anything to do with it).

Could well be expansion and contraction noises of pipework passing through say notches timber joists.

The pipework should be held clear of the notch so that no contact between pipe and timber occurs or wrapped in an anti-friction material (felt or similar)

What does the installer have to say about it?

Did he wrap the tube in felt when it passes over the joists?

If not then you can complain to the Institute of Plumbing ( if he is a member! ) Perhaps he is a cowboy?

Thanks Tony

Installer subcontracted by builder (NHBC). I've spoken to ALPHA boilers (boiler under warranty) who have referred me to insaller but have suggested debris in system culd be issue. Contacted builder for their advise - believe installer is CORGI registered, ps bled radiators yesterday- 2 upstairs had fair bit of air - but noise just the same.

Is debris in system a big job?

I agree with the others, it's almost certainly expansion. If it is more noticeable when the boiler kicks in when the room stat fires it up it is almost certainly that.

Problem is there even after the system has been running for few hours - if anything its starts 10-20 min after system kicks in.

Do you have big flat sheet chipboard floors? Impossible to look under?

What does the builder say? He is ultimately responsible for the work of his subcontractors!

Forget Alpha, its a system problem and almost certainly expansion related.
