Just moved in to a fairly old house, and every time the CH is operational, the radiators \\\'click\\\' fairly constantly. I guess the best way of describing th noise is if someone was knocking the radiators with a small hammer! It also seems to be worse upstairs than down for some reason. Any ideas?

Probably pipes/rads expanding/contracting when hot/cold - have a quick look in the "How to" section of this site under plumbing - noises associated with radiators
