if push comes to shove, i offer this advice, dont get a plumber, get a heating engineer, and ask do they know your boiler.

I know this boiler, am not a plumber. What is even better, I am in Glasgow (Bearsden)

Does this boiler have a standing/permanent (ie always on) pilot? Can't remember but I think so. If so, is it alight? If not, try to light it - instructions will be on it somewhere.
If it doesn't have a PP, call DP!

it is only lit when its on, if the heating was of when you turned the thermostat up it used to light up, now when you turn the thermostat up you can hear the boiler clicking but no flame appears
