I am putting an oak king truss into a job i am on at the moment..

The purlins are going to be notched into the truss.

I am going to notch the purlins into the truss so they are flush with the top of the truss (not sitting on top of it)

I am using green oak and am intersted to know how much i can expect the oak to shrink over time.. I want the notches to stay as tight as possible if i can.

many thanks

any joiner will be aware of what type of joint is suitable for the material in hand.

oak will shrink a bit but it may also twist and deform slightly.

make sure you have enough 'meat' left if you are to completely submerge the purlin within the truss.
