I am renovating my 1930's t & G , one inch thick, oak strip, hall floor. It has been covered with carpet for the last 30 years but, prior to that, had a polyurethane finish. After cleaning, scraping and orbital sanding, I have got it back to a nice smooth surface with a good colour but am not sure what is the best, modern finish, for this type of floor ? I feel that a couple of coats of satin finish, clear polyurethane might be the answer but, would the experts kindly advise if there is an alternative which is more suitable to this type of floor. Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.
