Hello,

I have just bought a load of ready primed MDF skirting. Having lightly rubbed them down, I'm planning on putting on another coat of primer, followed by an undercoat and satin topcoat(s).

As several people have pointed out MDF furs up a little once the paint is applied. Because of this I'm thinking I should give the skirtings a light rub down between each coat of primer, undercoat and topcoat to keep it smooth.

My question is: How long do I have to wait before the paint will be hard enough to rub down without tearing?

Many thanks!

Satinwood is a coat on coat paint. i.e you dont need undercoat just two coats of satinwood. Unless there is a marked colour change like black to white, then an undercoat is ok. Generally rubbing down between coats is just a matter of lightly de-nibbing, no need to go too heavy at it. If the tin says four hrs between coats (quick dry) then best to follow that.
good luck..
