Hi, my daughters car ( corsa) was overheating and the fan kicking in but when I went to fill the cooler tank there is a brown milky film inside the tank then when checking the oil cap there is a good build up of this also............any idea what is causing this...........

Oil and water emulsion under the oil filler cap is one thing, but I'm afraid if there are oil traces in the coolant its a blown head gasket - sorry!
A garage can undertake a 'sniff' test to confirm this.

possible head gasket failure, water in the oil, or car only used for short journeys, and never reaching operating temperature, give it a good long thrash down the motorway.

Oil / water emulsion under the oil filler cap are well due to short, cool runs and the closed breather system that we have today - but irrespective of use, I wouldn't like to see oil in the coolant.
However, we don't know if this car has had gasket problems previously, or if anyone has added water to the oil at some time by mistake! It has happened before......

Dont suppose its a diesel Corsa, that we could blame the oil cooler for the oil contamination in the coolant?

If not then its a dirty container used to top up the coolant (unlikely) or the engine oil is getting into the coolant internally. Simplest cause would be headgasket failure.
