Just moved into a house with oil fired CH/HW boiler. Just had the boiler serviced and now it will not fire up when I turn up the room thermostat. Boiler will start when I use reset button attached to it. Also, even though the boiler does not fire up when told to by the room thermostat the pump will run and gets very hot.

Any ideas on what is wrong?

It sounds as if the pump is stuck or there is no water in the system.

May be nothing to do with him but call back the service engineer.

You could look in the FAQ for details of how to check the pump and for water.

Could be a number of things but try this first it's most likely that some air as got into the oil line and it just needs purging.
Room stat will just contol the pump; not the boiler.

Many thanks for all your help. Problem was the oil pump. After fitting a new nozzle the old pump was too worn out to push oil through it. New oil pump has sorted it.
