hi there wanting some info to find out how to tell if your oil switch is not working or faulty, help would be greatful

The video shows how to change the switch.
This may not be your engine type? But the switch will be the same only in a different place on the engine.

Take the wire off the switch. With the ignition switch in the on position, connect the wire to the engine block (earth). The light should come on and then switch off, when you disconnect the wire.

A friend in the driver's seat might be handy.

Just make sure it is the oil switch, as there are a few sensors with single wire connection. If in doubt double-check

hiya thanks for reply how do i know if my oil switch is faulty or not working, that is the part am talking about in the clip you sent

hi there another thing had to get my water pump replaced coz the plastic part connected to the water pump broken off had to get new water pump, but when i put it into vauxhall to get it done got the car back and my tempature gauge keeps going up and down not much though, but before i put it in to get it fixed it didnt do that any ideas what they could have done to it,help would be greatful

Oil pressure switches are pretty reliable.....typically the oil lamp on the dash should go out immediately the engine starts, and not come on again until the engine stops.
If your engine is worn (crankshaft wise) the oil lamp may start to flicker when the engine is hot and ticking over, showing that oil pressure is low, typically less than 10 psi.
The only real way to check the oil pressure is to substitute the oil switch for a pressure gauge, and compare readings with the manufacturers specifications.
What are your symptoms?
John :)

Regarding the water temperature gauge, after a cold start the gauge should typically rise to around the 100 deg centigrade mark. At this point, as the thermostat opens you may see the gauge drop a little, to around the 90 deg mark. When stopped in traffic, you may see the gauge rise again and then start to fall as the electric cooling fan cuts in.
(Not all gauges register these changes accurately - they are damped to prevent the gauge needle waving about).
So long as you are not losing coolant and the expansion bottle is full plus the fan cuts in and out, I don't think you need worry.

im not losing any coolant, plus my tempature gauge goes upto just 90-91,then goes down and up doesnt go anywere near the 100,thanks for your reply

To answer your question about the oil switch. Just check the circuit as described above. If the light stays on with the engine running, replace the switch.
With the new switch fitted and connected. If the light stays on, with the engine running, its internal. Though it might be worth changing the engine oil and putting in an oil additive.
