This is an exterior wall in an inglenook fireplace, now with woodburner installed. Solid brick wall with cement based render exteriorly.
The brick and lime mortar appears dry but is flaking in places and some efflorescence as per photo. In some areas the face of brick has fallen away by up to 1/2". There is some cement render higher up which has failed and is dropping away.

It doesn't look great so want to plaster. Thinking lime to prevent moisture problems and also more in keeping with old farmhouse. Do you think this is OK or any remedial work needed first? Thanks
