Hi all

I am in the process of renovating an old out building upto residential standard. It was built in the 1830's and so has thick solid 9inch walls. I am going to batten out the internal walls and plasterboard but - some of the mortar is very soft and wearing away and my thought it to repoint the walls where soft to have a better chance for the battens to hold. Do I need to repoint the internal walls before battens / pasterboard or will that trap moisture considering the age / type of brick?

Thanks in anticipation
