I have simply replaced the old faithful Horstmann DRT2 with a Flomasta Model 6259G which in some countries is badged as a Horstmann DRT2, so no real problem.

However out of interest, the old Horstmann from new had a fault, before the low battery light came on, the relay would fail to operate, display showed all OK, but no central heating, and we knew first thing to try was new batteries.

Well this time new batteries did not work, hence swapped, however then tried some batteries straight out of the shop rather than just in an unopened packet, and found the old DRT2 worked again.

But returned two days latter and no display, removed and refitted same batteries and display now works again, and relay can be heard to click in, I had intended to reuse the old thermostat to modify the old Myson so speed increases if very cold, the manual adjusting knob was broken off by late mother-in-law with wheel chair, but before reusing wonder if this is a common fault, I will guess bad connection on batteries, which once cleared may never return, but worth asking question before re-using.
