Hello

Just wondering what is the standard way of strengthening timber beams. Where extra capacity is required due to extra loading requirements. Maybe using steel plates? I cant get to the bearing plates of the beam so any solution will need to be partial strapping etc

Cheers

Bolt another joist to the one that requires strengthening. Or if that's not enough a steel plate can be sandwiched between the old and new joist.
If its a floor though you don't need to bolt the new to the existing just having the new joists insitu can be enough.
