Ok, my flat was built in about 1960, it has a very old wylex fuse box for which the fuse for the heating and power is one switch. The lights have blown but I still have power.

In the past when the fuse has blown the power and lighting has been lost so therefore the fuse has not blown this time...just the lights.

Am guessing this is a wiring issue for the lights (still on red and black)??

Has anyone come across this before?

Fuses in the box: 1 main fuse switch, 1 for light and power, 1 for heating (not used), 1 for water heater (econ 7).

Can you clarify - you say the fuse for light and power is one switch - is it a switch (circuit breaker) or a fuse (a piece of wire that breaks when it overloads)? Photo of the box and its contents would help us.

If you truly have the power and lighting all through the same fuse/switch it needs to be amended sharpish - luckily you seem to have a spare (the heating - not used). But if they are together and only the lighting has gone, then the problem is not at the fuse box but probably at one of the light fittings, the first in the chain if you can identify it. You'll need to open the ceiling rose and find a loose/broken terminal - but do it with the power off, or better yet get a sparky in to do it.

it could be the lights are off the power cirquit via fused spur, is thier a small fuse anywhere, normally the size of a single socket, if so check that fuse, if blown replace with a 5 amp
