One for corbel nerds

In the roof of the typical Victorian terrace house, the purlin might be supported off a small projecting brick corbel.

This one is the biggest I've seen - ridiculously over-sized, and guaranteed to put an eccentric (and therefore detrimental) load on the gable wall.

That's what they're going to do, so the corbel will have to be replaced by a purpose-made steel shoe.
