Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice before I make things worse…
I’ve got a small but persistent leak coming through into the loft (only noticeable after heavy rain). It’s not pouring in, more like a damp patch that slowly builds up and occasionally drips.
From what I can see so far:
Has anyone had a similar “minor but annoying” leak and managed to sort it themselves? Or did it turn out to be more involved than expected?
Any advice appreciated

From what I can see so far:
- No obvious missing tiles from ground level
- Loft insulation slightly damp in one area
- Can’t pinpoint exact entry point (seems to travel a bit before showing)
Things I’m considering trying:
- Checking for slipped tiles or cracked ones from a ladder
- Looking at flashing around the chimney (this seems like a common culprit?)
- Sealing anything obvious as a temporary measure
What I’m unsure about:
- If water is travelling, am I wasting time chasing the wrong spot?
- How reliable are temporary fixes (sealants etc.) in reality?
- At what point do you stop and just call a roofer?
