We recently bought a house that has a fireplace opening with a constructional hearth. We have had the chimney cleaned and smoke tested. We would like to place fireboard around the inside of the fireplace opening, lay a new outer and inner hearth and use a fire basket for an open fire. The fire basket will be quite small, 40x25 cm. Is this covered by building regulations?

Looking through the Part J regulations, it says that J1-J3 only apply to "fixed combustion appliances". Is a fire basket a fixed combustion appliance? If not, it seems the only relevant item is J4 (Provision of information). Does this mean we have to pay for an installer to stick a label on the wall?
