Opening up Bedroom fireplace

Hi, we’re currently in the process of re- opening up a bedroom fireplace.

So far we’ve discovered there’s no concrete lintel in place, there is however a small arch, as shown in the attached photo.

Question is, does it require a concrete lintel? Or is the existing arch sufficient support?

Even a flat arch like that should provide support.
