Hi. Just joined. My first request for help is this.
I want to replace my dining room ceiling light with another. When I turn off the switch in the consumer unit before starting work the alarm goes off outside. This is because the guy who installed it 13 years ago took the supply to the alarm from one of the lighting circuits. The ceiling light is now isolated to work on but as there is now no power to the alarm the battery keeps the alarm on and I can't turn the alarm off to start work as there is no power. A friend told me that I have to remove thge battery from the control panel but I don't really want to do this. Can anyone advise what I should do please. Thanks

You need a new battery in your panel.

Thanks Joe. Can I just remove the front panel to change the battery or is there any alarm sysytem installed that will set it off? I assume I switch the breaker in the consumer unit first?

Yes switch it off and open the panel and change the battery. It should keep the panel powered for a few hours to let you work on the light.
