Hi,

We had a new kitchen installed a few years back and at the time, under cabinet lights were set in a couple of glass cupboards and under several units. These were mains lights (on a transformer) and if I remember correctly they were the small capsule halogen types?!
Unfortunately but a month or two later, the power to these seemed to drain away and soon after they stopped working all together (a couple of lamp replacements worked for a short time before themselves giving up the ghost and further lamps just did not work).
I've absolutely no idea why they expired (dodgy transformers?) and I liked the light they gave to the work area. As I didn't wish to chance another batch of this type of light we replaced them with fluorescent strips...and to this day I just cannot find any love for them at all (quite a cold, Russian experimental sci-fi movie look :) ?!)
So I'm wanting to replace them sometime this week....but I'm struggling with the options in the DIY sheds.

Can anybody recommend a halogen style (crisp/bright etc) type of lights that would do the job? The LED's I've seen so far would barely light up a matchbox - as I won't need to dim them might CFL u/c lighting be an option? They will have to be mains connected btw.

Many thanks.

I think your best bet would be to replace the tubes with warmer ones, you would then have a similar light to a CFL, which is of course just what you have at the moment rolled up into a smaller shape.

Bear in mind that for under cupboard lighting, or for that matter almost any other type of lighting, fluorescent strips provide the best light, but only with the appropriate tubes.
