Is it ok to use OSB3 18mm for internal structural flooring directly on top of floor joists instead of 18mm ply?

Is there any downside to using OSB3 internally?

Great for shuttering and sheds etc, not so good for holding things up.

Ok thanks didnt know that. Why is that? I thought if it was used for structural decking on flat roofs it could be used internally as it looked pretty strong. 18mm ply is stronger?

OSB has some unusual properties, but it's basically flakes glued together. It a variation on chipboard, but because it's flakes, has greater latteral structure, so will flex more than chipboard does. When it's used for a flat roof, there's nothing that heavy being put on top of it.

I've just done my flat roof in osb3 t and g. It looks way different to the usual osb, much smoother and looks more compacted.

Hard to believe but not everyone has a piano. Some people don't even have a flushing toilet!

I've used OSB 3 for floors without problems
I should point out that I don't have a piano :D

OSB is fine for floors, used in all new builds (well many).
It's also used for industrial shelving.
I am sure I've also seen piano crates made out of it:D

I noticed that the last lot of OSB I bought for a flat roof had a smooth, shiney finish. I wonder if that is a response to all the housey programmes on TV, where hipster designers mistake OSB for an interior finish for walls?

It was less smooth and shiney after a week outside, anyway.

Doubt they'd make fancy coatings on all the stock just for a few people using it in a novel way! If they did one itd be 20x the price:LOL:
