Hi,

We are planning a house party and are concerned about keeping guests warm. There will be limited place inside and therefore cannot accommodate everyone squeezing inside. If the temp drops I assume people will leave (or stay and complain).

We have an outdoor covered patio area (approx 7m x 4m). Problem is the sides are unprotected.

We were thinking of hiring one/two portable heaters. Then attaching tarps (or similar) to block out the wind/rain/cold. We were hoping that the combination of the two would be adequate to keep people warm.

Has anyone had any experience with such a problem? How did you manage it?

We have seen examples of outdoor heating at bars and cafes. Not certain how effective they are...

(Note that we do not have enough space to put up a marquee, and marquees apparently cannot be erected without all walls and the roof...)

Under no circumstances use the gas fired patio heaters in an enclosed area - at best you may set fire to the roof covering and at worst you may kill some of your guests with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Go with electric radiant heaters - make sure that you don't overload any circuits and avoid running extension cables with heavy loads

or wear suitable clothing!

A couple of hired gas patio heaters and a canvas wind break mate.....when the booze gets going they won't complain :p

You just need to get them moving around a bit. Hire a drill instructor or a tiger for the evening.
