outside lighting from spur

Quick question on the above.

I'm installing a DIY store floodlight with PIR. The easiest point to connect is to add a spur to a plug socket on the landin, where I can run a switched socket for the flood light.

The above post prefers connection to lighting circuit but is ring mains also acceptable?
 
Use an FCU rather than a socket - a flex coming through a hole in the wall to a plug is horrible. Make sure it's one with a double pole switch. If possible position it so that the cable for the light exits the rear of the FCU into the rear of the light.

Is the circuit RCD protected? If not that will have to be changed before you can add any new concealed cables.

How powerful is the light? You might need permission to install it.
