Outside Lights with no power cables!

Dumb question alert!

I bought a set of 35w outside lights, expecting them to either come with the mains plug so i can easily plug them into a mains point that I have on my terrace, or at least have cables with them so that I can get an electrician to connect them to some other existing outside cables for another light. But there were no cables at all supplied. I had no idea that outside lights come without any cables, and so I'm not sure what I need to buy in order to get them connected. Thanks very much.

Well, yes - I'm afraid it is, a bit.

I had no idea that outside lights come without any cables.

The vast majority of lights, internal and external, come without cables. How many have you seen with them?

In general equipment intended for fixed installation does not come with cables as the appropriate length and type of cable depends on the installation conditions.

One exception in the Blagdon system I don't like it but it does make DIY easy.

Ikea wall lights are another nasty exception.
