Thanks for all the replies. Looks like it's the hob that is going to cause the problem - I'll have a look and see if the terminals will take 4mm (or even 6mm) as that would solve a lot of the problems.
One final thing, can someone tell me if the fused cooker switch needs to be above the worksurface? I'd like to put it in the base cabinet to the side of the oven/hob (within 2m from the oven/hob).
