Please help!! m  y door frame has been stained and I want to gloss over it. I first tried just undercoating it but the paint turned yellow where the stain came through. I have now used primer sealer on it but when I started undercoating it the paint went yellow again. I don't know what stain was used what can I do?

You have two problems....

One...bleeding of the previous coating, this is caused by the white spirit in the paint you are using reactivating the paint below...

Two...An adhesion problem....paint doesnt take to varnished or stained surfaces very well

Give it a good sanding down and get yourself a can of either dulux super grip or ultra grip primer....its water based and will give good adhesion for subsequent coats...and it should cure the bleeding problem.

If you cant get the Dulux, try Melamine primer.

Thanks once again for your invaluable advice Zampa and to Breezer for his contribution. I'll do as you suggest.
